Choosing me while choosing my children

Yoni and You - Georgina Pharo

Becoming a mother is a journey that some women choose to embark on. For me, the desire to be a mother has always been a part of who I am. I knew from a young age that it was a path I wanted to take. However, there is no guidebook on how to be a mother, and there is a lack of discussion about the struggle to maintain our identity in a role we have chosen.

We are often told that we need to prioritise ourselves in order to find our identity as we navigate motherhood. But what if we could embrace the idea of choosing both? ourselves and our children equally?

We can accept that we are no longer the same person we once were, but instead welcome the woman we are becoming. A mother who takes care of her own needs as much as she cares for her children. As you witness a piece of your heart walking around outside of your body, remember that a piece of you resides in their hearts as well.

Your children watch you as you navigate the challenges of motherhood, and as you guide them, they learn to love both you and themselves. Embrace the freedom to be an authentic mother while also nurturing and creating a childhood for your children that you feel the presence of in your identity, too.
